I have known this author all of my life. We grew up together and have been in the same circles for years. I cannot begin to put into words the immense pride I take in learning of her triumphant victory over the vicious clutches of childhood abuse. We have all been conditioned to cower at the mention of taboo subjects like sexual abuse and incest. Sadly, our failure to explore it and sound the trumpets allows this insidious problem to grow tentacles and further strangle the life and innocence out of our loved ones.Karen Doughty demonstrates the otherworldly fortitude required to turn around and face this beast head-on in a battle for her very soul and spirit. As she fearlessly takes us along her heart-wrenching, devastating journey, she responsibly and generously provides a well-researched path leading from victimhood to champion! The book is overflowing with referrals, websites, and real contacts that will empower any victim to take control of their situations immediately.
This story is raw and real, so prepare to be impacted. Nevertheless, I would have appreciated more insight about the specific formative events in the perpetrator's childhood that actually set the stage for this pernicious assault. The author is very noble and shows great wisdom in warning against the pitfalls of bitterness and unforgiveness; yet, we are left wanting a fuller account of the molester's backstory.
What I found particularly strong about the book is that Karen Doughty goes into just enough detail to allow us into the psyche of an abused young child, without gratuitously exposing graphic details that are not material to the overarching message of the book.
We cry with her, we root for her, and we ultimately triumph with her as she overcomes the struggle of a lifetime. I recommend this mind-blowing, real-life account to anyone who has either experienced child abuse first-hand or knows someone who could benefit from the encouragement, inspiration, wisdom, and practical information it imparts.

Through her book EMPOWERED TO UPROOT THE SEED OF ABUSE author Karen Doughty is able to use her own journey from victim to overcomer to help others to know how they can move forward in their lives and thrive, as well as become a source of help and hope for others.
She uses not only her own childhood abuse but those of others to illustrate how no matter how traumatic the experience might be, we don't have to be defined by it. Karen showcases through scriptures how we can move forward and walk in a path that not only includes happiness but peace and forgiveness as well.
It's not going to happen all at once, nor should we expect that it will, but it will come---and that is what we have to hold on to.
Written with compassion and love and a full understanding of how such seeds can be disastrous to not only the abuse victim and those around them, Karen has given us something to show how we can deal with the subject and the effects from the grown up.
I first would like to commend Karen Doughty for stepping out on faith and telling her story. The good thing about this book is that its not just about what has happened to the author(child sexual abuse), but its about how to overcome adversity. This is not only for survivors of child abuse but survivors in general, family members of survivors, victims, predators, its a learning experience for everyone. For as she states, "abuse has no gender, race, or income." I am not a victim of sexual abuse but knowing someone who has experienced these things, this books helps me to better understand, cope and gives me hope on things that I face in life. The first thing people want to do when they hear that someone has been sexually abused is feel sorry but this book screams dont feel sorry for me, I overcame, now lets help you! Its truly a page turner and is worth every penny!!!!
